….all this taken into account though, I still want to rock it like a baby and never let it out of my sight. It’s also pretty tiny, much smaller than it looks in photos, so you can’t be too sloppy when trying to dip your brush into just one of the pans. Money-wise it’s not a great deal which means that it’s really for people who can’t get it out of their heads (a.k.a most of us), peeps who have never tried any of the powders before or really amazing boyfriends whose Christmas present buying game is strong. 4) Pop in a lippy and blush, and voila Have you tried Hourglass. Here you’re getting 6 lots of 1.4g powders, so 8.4g, whereas in the usual Ambient Lighting Powders for example, you pay £38 for 10g. 3) I set both concealer and foundation with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Diffused Light). At £65 it’s painful to your pockets and it doesn’t equate to fab value for money. Now there is a downside as always and unfortunately here it’s price. The textures are just as buttery and blendable as the originals and this palette basically takes care of all face powder needs – setting, highlighting, bronzing, blush – everything. There’s also the Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light tacked on to the end which gives a nice sun-kissed honey glow. On the bottom there are two colours of the Ambient Lighting Blush: Mood Exposure, a mauvey ‘goes with anything’ shade and Luminous Flush, a hot fuchsia coral. On the top are three shades of their Ambient Lighting Powder range: Dim Light, a pale beige that I use to set my makeup all over, Iridescent Light, a never seen before shade that’s a shimmery baby pink most suited to highlight and Diffused Light, a pale yellow that’s great for undereyes and redness. In similar packaging to the rest of their Ambient line, it opens up to reveal a big mirror on one side and six pans of pigment on the other. It’s going to be the sell-out of the festive season and sit in the top spot of beauty lover’s Christmas lists worldwide, but is it worth the hype? Ridiculous musings aside, it’s time for a serious review. Also the name – ‘Ambient Lighting Edit’ – I knew I had to own it, even just from the name. I feel like I want to bundle it up and rock it like a baby. I breathlessly yelled ‘ OMG!‘ when it arrived and Mark and I didn’t talk for a while after he tried to rugby tackle me whilst I had it in my hands. I must preface this post by saying that the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit is one of the most beautiful things I have seen it my life.

This made me curious, so I just opened up Olympus OV3, and the TIFFs produced with Affinity Photo are NOT viewable by that program. I tested a newer Nikon program (NX-D?), but it didn't work any better. I have no idea if that's relevant or not.) (FWIW, images edited with Zoner Photo Studio 18 and saved to TIFF did not have a problem. From this, I deduced that there was some kind of a problem with the alpha channel relative to friendly relations with both FastStone & VNX2. Converting the TIFFs to JPEG, or saving from photoFXlab direct to JPEG, resulted in viewable images. There was no problem viewing the default TIFFs in IrfanView, XnView or the Windows photo app. The problem disappeared when manually saving in pfxl, selecting NONE for compression and de-selecting "Save Alpha Channel" I'm almost positive that the alpha channel was the problem after de-selecting, the TIFFs would be viewable in both FastStone and VNX2. I'm relatively new to using layers, started about 8 mos ago with pfxl, and immediately ran into a problem with saving TIFFs they could not be viewed in neither Nikon View NX2 or FastStone (my wife's image viewer). I had a similar problem with TIFFs saved from Topaz photoFXlab (pfxl). The only reason PT10 isn't considered compatible according to Avid is the PT10 uninstaller doesn't work. I had PT10.3.10 running on my old iMac system in my profile just fine on OSX 10.8.5 and OSX 10.9.5. According to the compatibility chart here: PT10.3.10 is compatible with SL 10.6.7 running on a true Mac. So your doing this dance on the Hackintosh right? Working outside the box like that you can expect to have issues. I guess my next try is going to be to create a new user on that restored Snow Leopard system, delete the old one, uninstall everything I can in the applications folder, and try installing Pro Tools there. The old Snow Leopard disk has apparently worn out (gives me an error message saying it's dirty, but I don't see any dirt). We have reinstalled Pro Tools a few times on that same system drive and it fixes the problems temporarily. I restore my backup of the Snow Leopard hard drive and it works still, but it also still has the issues I'm trying to fix. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" in 5 languages.) Mac OS 10.7.5 installs just fine, thankyouverymuch, and it seems that Pro Tools 10.3.10 isntalls just fine until I Restart after the install and then I get kernel panic on the Apple screen (Grey screen of death: "You need to restart your computer. Whats new in Logic Pro 10.7.5 Free tempo recording and other Smart Tempo enhancements Personalized Spatial Audio support Ableton Link support Record MIDI. Anyway, I needed to do a fresh install from the OS up and have a purchased installer for Lion so figured we'd use that instead to be compatible. Apparently PT10 isn't compatible with Snow Leopard (which I found out recently), so I'm not sure how I ever installed it, but we had and it worked. We've been running our mix stage on PT10 for 4 years now with Mac OS Snow Leopard, an installation originally used for PT 9. Which assessment type will give us the most accurate representation of student knowledge (Open Response, Selected response, performance task, or Observation). Here are some things to keep into consideration: DOK 2Īt this point, it may also be helpful to discuss with your team the best way to assess students on each learning target and create a few sample items or tasks. I can distinguish among multiple meaning words.I can use context clues to determine or meaning of words.Several taxonomies exist I will be using Webb’s DOK for this example. On her blog, Alice Keeler discusses how to actually determine DOK. Although verbs can give some indication, they do not tell the whole story. Many people rely on verbs to help determine DOK levels. Step 3a: Determine the appropriate depth of knowledge of learning target.įinding the DOK helps determine what you and your team will use as the criteria for success for each target. I can distinguish among multiple meaning words.Īt this point, it might make sense to combine any targets that really do go together:.I can use context clues to clarify meaning of words.I can use context clues to determine meaning of words.Step 2: Determine each separate verb/noun combination and write in the form of a learning target. Also identify any prepositional phrases that add context ( Italics).ġ1.4.r.3: Students will use context clues to determine or clarify the meaning o f words or distinguish a mong multiple meaning words. Step 1: Identify Verbs ( Bold) and Nouns ( underlined). Here is the language of the standard:ġ1.4.r.3: Students will use context clues to determine or clarify the meaning of words or distinguish among multiple meaning words. This standard involves teaching students how to use context clues to figure out what words mean. The shared understanding about the standard is what makes this process really powerful for team. There is no ONE way to unpack each standard. Furthermore, someone else could unpack this same standard and get something different, and most likely better, than I did. This process can be applied to any standard in any subject. The point of this post is not the standard itself though it is the process of unpacking I chose this because it is a versatile standard it may not be included in all content areas, but this standard is one of those that impacts every subject area. I will be using one of the new ELA standards. If you already know these things than we won’t waste your time we will challenge you to extend your learning even more. We have come up with a plan to monitor your progress, and give you extra support if you need. We promise you will learn the most important things in this subject. In other words, the results of determining and unwrapping essential standards is a detailed plan to fulfill a promise to students it’s like us saying: This is not about getting every body on the same page the same day teaching the exact same lessons in lock-step – but about ensuring ALL kids become proficient in what teachers decide is essential in their content. Using unpacked standards does not dictate how a teacher chooses to help students learn – but helps teachers pinpoint exactly what knowledge and skills students should be walking away with. Teachers should always have the freedom to take risks and create innovative and creative lessons. “ The how” is always up to the teacher and should never be dictated as a top-down expectation. The goal of this process is about being extremely deliberate about what we want students to learn NOT how we will get them to learn it. I understand that many view that using standards removes a autonomy and inhibits their creativity. The majority of this process derives from the work of Larry Ainsworth – Power Standards: Identifying the Standards That Matter Most and Unwrapping Standards : a Simple Guide to make Standards Manageable.īefore getting on with the process I want to begin with one important clarification regarding standards. I cannot take credit for this process I have combined ideas from various classes, presentations, and books related to standards and assessment. Just Try-It Tuesday: Unpacking Standards a st ep-by-step guideīelow I have outlined 6 steps content area teams might use to unpack standards for the purpose of guiding their instruction and assessment throughout the year. The difference between all of that and what he found in the magazines under the stairs in Foxy’s garage was like the difference between being told about germs and then actually seeing them in a microscope, squirming around and alive. He had even known something about the concentration camps. He knew that the Americans won most of the battles and that the Germans had invented rockets near the end and shot them from Germany onto London. He knew that the Americans wore round helmets with net on them and the krauts wore sort of square ones. He had known about the war, of course – not the stupid one going on now, where the Americans had gotten the shit kicked out of them by a bunch of gooks in black pajamas – but World War II. Boring.”īut by the time fat Foxy Pegler found them, Todd no longer wanted to read comics. “What are those?” Todd asked, pointing at the bulging cardboard cartons under the stairs. They’re Westerns mostly, but there’s some Turok, Son of Stone and –” His mother had a hangover and had kicked them out of the house for making too much noise. “I know there’s comics here someplace,” Foxy had said. He remembered Foxy’s crewcut, and the flakes of Butch Wax clinging to the front of it. He remembered the smell of burning, hot and greasy. The Santa Anas had been blowing that day, and to the east there were brush-fires. Anderson was full of bullshit at the time, but that day in Foxy’s garage, he remembered what she had said and wondered if maybe she hadn’t been right after all. That’s why Careers Day is so important, children – it may be the day on which you find YOUR GREAT INTEREST.” And she had gone on to tell them about her own GREAT INTEREST, which turned out not to be teaching fifth grade but collecting nineteenth-century postcards. You see something for the first time, and right away you know you have found YOUR GREAT INTEREST. ‘It comes all at once,” Bugs Anderson had rhapsodized. Anderson (all the kids called her Bugs because of her big front teeth) had talked to them about what she called finding YOUR GREAT INTEREST. He remembered in the fifth grade, before Careers Day, how Mrs. He’s so so good that way.ĮXCERPT FROM Different Seasons (Signet) by Stephen King – Apt Pupil How the obsession leads to murder and madness will have to wait … but here King is setting the stage. Watch how King powerfully sets up the kid’s obsession. I remember the following excerpt – parts of it almost word for word, it made that much of an impression on me when I first read it. I want to get inside other people’s psychologies as well. That’s why I find him not just fun to read … but a bit addictive. Whether it be a crazy clown in the sewer … or the fact of the Holocaust … King is interested primarily in the psychological. To me, the best thing about him is (because I’m not into genre fiction, not in the slightest) – his interest is always in what happens to a person when he or she is confronted with horror. I definitely don’t mind it if the person is a good writer – and King is great. He just takes you through it step by step (and yeah, sometimes his “steps” could be edited down – he takes 3 pages for what could be one paragraph) … but I don’t mind that so much. I can’t remember much else about it … but I remember being captivated by it when I first read it … and King just has this way of describing the “series of events” that leads up to a catharsis/confrontation … so that there is no doubt in your mind the horror that is underneath it all. The riff-raff of the world … the world needs a cleansing. He becomes convinced that the homeless people lying around their city, under bridges, etc., – need to be killed. Some of the details of the story are lost to me, it’s been a long time – but basically, the kid goes off the deep end. The kid befriends his next-door neighbor – but it’s more like he insinuates himself into his life, because he wants to get closer to the Holocaust, and he believes this man was one of the perpetrators against the crime of humanity. The sheer numbers stun you – because you don’t even know what “6 million” even looks like – it’s hard to picture that many people all at once. I remember my first encounter with the Holocaust – and how difficult it was to get my mind around it. The kid has become obsessed with the Holocaust – it haunts his dreams, he can’t stop thinking about it … it grabs hold of him and never lets go. A young kid becomes overwhelmingly convinced that his elderly next-door neighbor is a Nazi war criminal in hiding. The second novella in this collection is called “Apt Pupil” and it was also made into a film (rest in peace, Brad Renfro – always thought he was a nice young actor, sad). Different Seasons (Signet) by Stephen King The other side of the bit is for extracting the screw. One end of the extractor is for drilling into the stripped screw to create an impression. A screw extractor kit is a special kind of drill bit that is designed for removing a stripped screw. When all else fails, there’s always a kit for everything. If Nothing Else, Try a Screw Extractor Kit Usually, this works by driving the drill bit deeper into the screw and allowing for you to have more traction and grip to get the stripped screw turning again.ħ. Just make sure you get the piece of steel wool into the stripped screw head to make sure this method works best.Īnother way to help you get some traction with your stripped screw is to use a hammer to gently tap the handle of a manual screwdriver deeper into the stripped screw. Use some steel wool between the screw head and the drill bit to increase traction and prevent the drill from rotating out of control. Similar to the rubber band method, using steel wool is a great way to add traction to a stripped screw to get a better grip on it. Because manual screwdrivers offer more control than an electric drill, they are often the best way to easily remove a stripped screw. Use a manual screwdriver to try to extract the screw. A drill can sometimes run away with you, giving you less control over screwing or removing a stripped screw. Sometimes it’s easy, especially for beginners, for the drill bit to spring out of the screw head and strip it down. Many people strip their screws with an electric drill bit. You may need a little arm strength for this method, but by pressing hard with the flat head screwdriver at an angle, you can likely get into the stripped head and begin to pry it loose. This method usually works pretty well as the rubber offers ample grip to the screwdriver or drill bit.Ī standard flat head manual screwdriver is a handy tool to have and can be used for removing a stripped screw. Using the rubber as traction, place the driver bit on top of the rubber band and press extra hard while turning the screw. Take a wide rubber band and cut it with scissors to lay across the screw head. The rubber works well for providing the driver with a little extra grip and traction to get the stripped screw moving again. Grab a spare wide rubber band to use for getting your stripped screw loose. Even if you can only grab a tiny bit of the screw head, usually with a good pair of pliers that’s enough to begin turning and loosening the screw. Pliers are usually the most reliable method of removing a stripped screw. Choose a pair of vise-grip or locking pliers, grip the screw head, and turn until the screw comes loose and comes out easily. If the screw isn’t completely embedded in the piece of wood or metal, chances are you can wiggle it loose with a good pair of pliers. It’s annoying when it happens, but just because you can’t get a grip on your stripped screw to extract it doesn’t mean it’s stuck forever.īelow we’ve provided 8 different ways to remove a stripped screw without breaking a sweat. This can happen when using the wrong screw bit while screwing, working too fast, or trying to insert a screw at an unusual angle. The result? A stuck screw you can’t move. A stripped screw is a pain but not impossible to deal with.įirst, what’s a stripped screw? A stripped screw is a screw with a head that has become too damaged, bored out, or worn down so that the screw bit on your drill or screwdriver can no longer get a good grip. At some point in your journey of being a DIY homeowner or having any interest in carpentry and handy manning, chances are you will eventually encounter a stripped screw. The series worldbuilding is VERY true to DnD rulesets (as far as I can judge considering I tried not to spoiler myself much), at least the first episode seemed to have pretty damn nice production value (let's see if that holds up or if that's the typical production budget is basically reserved for first and last episode only) and the Berserkesque cruel reality-ensues really, REALLY tickles my fancies which makes it doubly hilarious considering this is based on DnD lore and rule sets, you could say that it's a brutal DM leading the campaign. but that's not in the foreseeable future, especially with X4: Foundations coming around and looking like a proper, addictive X series game again (after that X-Abortion nonsense they tried last time).Īs someone who's not too long ago been shanghai'd into joining an online DnD group I'm having high expectations for 'Goblin Slayer'. One of these days when I'm bored and got nothing better to play I'll likely play it just for the story (and still try my hand on not-cheesing and getting max ratings, because screw you game I'm trying anyway!). That combined with the fact that if you want highest ratings you basically HAVE to cheese means I couldn't even experiment much to make other compositions work as the less-than-perfect mission ratings would forever be a eyesore to my poor like completionist gamer heart. See, this is what I've been reading basically everywhere and I really dislike if a game just asks players to cheese through everything. Combined with some orders, they make (except a few chapters) every other class obsolete.
